We all know life is precious and can change in an instant. On August 21, 2020, the lives of our family were irrevocably altered when Robert was diagnosed with 4 stage cancerous Glioblastoma. This terrible and unexpected news sent ripples of concern, worry and the next step in Robert’s long, extensive journey.
The Life of Robert
For those who know Robert know that he is a simple man. An amazing husband and incredible stepfather who raised his stepson like his own since the young age of 7. Robert has an insatiable appetite for being warm, kind and funny, living life to its fullest each and every day. Robert is the type of person that lights up a room and would give this shirt off his back to a total stranger. Robert has always given to his community and served/volunteered as a member of the West Hempstead Fire Dept. for 5 years and the Inwood Fire Dept. for 25 years. He followed in his father’s footsteps and was an instrumental part of the fire department racing team. Robert worked for UPS for 26 years, retiring in 2019 when he moved to Fort Myers in November of 2019. He is a fierce competitor and always strived to be the best. Robert has a passion for all types of sports and even worked part-time at the Red Sox spring training JetBlue Park. Robert was settling his newfound active lifestyle in Florida by playing golf, riding his bike and working out.
Initial Diagnosis
On August 27, 2020, Robert had surgery to remove a tumor in his brain and ventured on the long road to recovery with chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Shortly thereafter, Robert’s mobility began to deteriorate and in early March of 2021, Robert’s doctor told him he had 18 months to live. The entire family was completely devastated.
Hospitalization/Recovery
During this process, Robert has had a few setbacks with swelling of the brain which landed back in the hospital January 5, 2023, where he continues to remain. Robert is in the midst of a brave battle against this challenging form of cancer with his friends and family rallying close by his side. As a family, we struggle financially to provide the much-needed home care and physical therapy for Robert’s medical bills and would appreciate any donation to provide for the long journey ahead. We all thank you for your kindness and look ahead to better and brighter days for Robert and his family.
