Robert ‘s Fight (Bert)

In June 2021 Rob was rushed into A&E with stroke like symptoms, after several tests were completed including a CT scan the doctors advised he had a mass on the left hand side of his Brain. He was referred over to Walton neurological team for a MRI scan and a few weeks later the family received devastating news that Rob had a brain tumour. Rob desperately wanted surgery but due to the nature of the tumour, the type of tumour and position he was advised this was too risky and it was agreed that radio therapy and chemotherapy would be the best and only option available to him for treatment.

At the age of 63, our friend, family member, father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle and all round ‘everyone’s dad’, life has changed significantly over a very short amount of time. He has been diagnosed with an inoperable / incurable brain tumour that has shocked everyone around him. The treatment he is currently undertaken will hopefully stabilise or shrink the tumour and allow him some quality of life.

For those of you who know Rob well, you will know he has a lot of pride, a huge heart and an unbelievable sense of determination. As a family we believe his strength of mind will play a huge part in his he handles this intense treatment and we are immensely proud of him for continuing to fight this horrible illness everyday.

The impact on a person and family members of such heart breaking news is mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting. Rob is now unable to work and his life has changed forever in such a short space of time. Over the next 5 weeks and months to come Rob will be taking on the fight of his life as daily radiation and chemotherapy will continue.

We would like to also fight for Rob and raise funds to help him with loss of earnings, costs of rehabilitation, adaptations at home any possible future treatments that may not be available on the NHS, to give him the best possible chance. We also want to make sure his quality of life is as best it can be and not add any financial burden to what is already a very stressful time.

The family are overwhelmed with people’s kind words, cards, support, love and messages of positivity. A lot of people are asking how else they can support, whilst his family are supporting in every way this is bigger than that and pride has been put one side so we can start to raise awareness and never give up the fight for him. We will be organising some fund raising activities over the coming weeks and once again anyone who can help please get in touch.

Rob is a very special person to many, if love was a cure he would be tumour free. Please help us to fight for him and share his story.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported so far, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.❤️
