Robert "Bob" Thomson Memorial Fund

Donation protected
Robert "Bob" Thomson was a gentle giant who cared deeply for all those he met. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. Bob was a graduate of Southport High School class of 1968 in Indianapolis, In. A man of many talents, he worked in the telecommunications industry for Indiana Bell, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Avaya, and Advanced Communication Services. Bob was responsible for putting in phone lines in some unique places, like the RCA Dome, GTM, the Sheriff's Department, and even for a presidential visit to Indianapolis. After retiring from the industry, he maintained a vibrant life outside, learning to woodwork, and watching his grandkids enjoy life and sports. Bob loved fishing and was a life member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society.

Bob's children were heavily involved in Center Grove sports. He could easily be seen screaming and yelling in the stands or the sidelines at a basketball, soccer, or volleyball game. Bob also coached his young daughter's league teams to a championship. He was also known for his scary antics at the Hanna Haunted House and his vocal authority, for several years, at the Johnson County Demolition Derby.

He was active in the community as a Past Master of Greenwood Lodge #514 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #390. He was a member of Indiana JCI Senate #94 No. 42276, past President and member of the Southport Jaycees, and Colonel #31 in the Indiana Hoosier Corps. A past Noble of the Murat Temple, The Gatling Gun Club, and Johnson County Shrine Club. He was a past member of the Greenwood York Rite and the Valley of Indianapolis Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.

Bob struggled with diabetes and was hospitalized many times due to complications. Recently he was taken to the hospital for an infection in his leg, and while in rehabilitation, he got pneumonia. While the struggle was severe, Bob fought back to see his family. After a few days of what all thought was a successful turnaround, he contracted a severe infection in his lungs.

Sadly, his lungs were struggling; they could not function on their own. While grasping for hope, the reality of the situation was that he would not have the quality of life he wanted if he moved past this fight. Bob informed the family that he was ready to move into his eternal life.

Sadly, Bob passed peacefully on October 4, 2020, with his wife(Janet) and sister (Linda) by his side.

Unfortunately, due to the unexpected death, the family will need assistance to offset his funeral costs, along with an extensive amount of medical expenses.

His children Rob (Chrissy) Thomson, Deanna (Keith) Hatfield, Stepdaughter Julie (Nate) Lyon, and Stepson Jay Whetsel and the rest of his family, thank you in advance for any donation that you can give to help this loving man rest in peace and at ease knowing things will be handled.

Jay Whetsel will control this fund to ensure that all final wishes are made for Bob and help the family.
