Australian Engineer Robert Pether was trapped, unlawfully arrested and imprisoned in Iraq on the 7th April 2021 while an employee of a Dubai based company and one of the key Engineers on the new Central Bank of Iraq HQ construction project in Baghdad.
Robert has been subjected to horrendous human rights abuse, an absolute lack of due process and perpetual malicious prosecution. The UN ARBITRARY DETENTION Working Group published opinion number 70/2021 in March 2022 calling for his IMMEDIATE UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE and highlighting multiple violations of human rights and international law.
Also, in February 2023 the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) ruled completely in Robert's Employer's favour and found Central Bank guilty. This ruling was endorsed this year in the Netherlands. Proving that Robert (and his employer) are completely innocent and have committed no crime.
Robert's situation continues to worsen. He has been subjected to perpetual malicious prosecution based on fabrication and manipulation of facts. We need help. Our savings are gone. The legal fees continue and we need to engage lawyers to fight for Robert's rights on multiple fronts. Robert has a serious skin condition and is a melanoma survivor. His health has deteriorated physically and mentally. He can not receive sufficient medical treatment in Iraq. This is a human rights violation and extremely precarious for Robert. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
