Robert Morr's Journey with ALS

Hello all. My name is Juli (Morr) Hamilton. I'm asking for your help for my cousin, Robert Morr. He has been diagnosed with ALS-LouGehrig's Disease. The disease is progressive, meaning the symptoms get worse over time. Currently, there is no cure for ALS and no effective treatment to halt, or reverse, the progression of the disease. Early symptoms of ALS include muscle weakness or stiffness. Gradually, all muscles under voluntary control are affected, and individuals lose their strength and the ability to speak, eat, move, and even breathe.

Robert's symptoms started many months ago. He attributed his symptoms to a recent knee replacement. When it got to the point where he was unable to walk, had significant weight loss, and difficulty breathing, he agreed to go to the hospital.

Robert has spent 5 weeks in two hospitals (one hospital was for a 2nd opinion). Three of those weeks were in ICU and 2 weeks in Intermediate Care. He has undergone a barrage of poking, prodding, tests, x-rays, scans and treatments. An endotracheal tube connects him to a ventilator, and he's being fed through a feeding tube. His wife of 43 yrs (and high school sweetheart), Laurie, is with him 24/7 through all the tests, procedures, sleepless nights, questions and worry.

As they are both retired, on a limited income, and only have Medicare (no supplements), their out of pocket medical expenses are astronomical. Rather than going to a nursing care facility, when Robert is released from the hospital, per his and Laurie's wishes, he will go home. While Laurie has shouldered all of his care giving responsibility, medical and supportive care will no doubt be needed, as well as medical equipment and supplies, as the disease is progressing quickly.

Before ALS, Robert was a fun loving guy with a big contagious laugh. He and his wife raised their children in the same small community and school system where they were raised. The family is well known and loved. Robert was an avid hunter with both shotgun and bow & arrow with his Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Cabela. He has held various offices in Ducks Unlimited Macon County. Robert has enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, farming, and raising Hereford cattle. He has been employed at AE Staley, ADM, Whitmore Township, and 5 Morr's Rebuilding.

The first thing I am requesting are prayers for Robert and family; prayers for strength, courage and God's miraculous healing. If you are able, monetary donations, no matter how big or small, are needed immediately, and would be so appreciated. It would help lessen some of their financial worry, the burden of medical bills, and allow them to focus solely on Robert's care and physical needs. If you would like to donate, but are unable to through Go Fund Me, please message me.

Thank you all! God Bless you!
