My son Robert was born with Alpha 1 antitrypsin syndrome. In most cases it affects the lungs and then the liver. In his case he is suffering complete liver failure. For him to survive he has to have a complete liver transplant to save his life. He is a Married father of two beautiful children ages 7and 5. This illness has taken away his ability to live active normal life . He has had to quit working and attending college and put his dreams of be coming a pediatrician on hold. Even with insurance there are many of other expenses . We live over 140 miles from UNC Chapel Hill . He and his wife will have to travel back a forth to Chapel Hill. Along with hotel stays while he is hospitalized and the month he will have to relocate after the surgery. Not to mention the years of medication and treatment to keep him from rejecting the new liver. His wonderful wife has had to drop out of school also to care for him. I have had them staying in my home with there two beautiful children for a few years and am helping as much as I can . This has put a financial burden on our whole family. And wish I could do more. Please help them in any way you can.
