Robert Hess's fight: medical bills and a new life
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brooklyn and I am fundraising on behalf of my older brother Robert Hess. Robert was the typical 27 year old man, healthy, hardworking, kind, and selfless. He spent the majority of his time at work and making memories with his family and children.
The story:
After catching a cold and developing a cough, he took himself to urgent care on Christmas morning, and he was sent home with a pneumonia diagnosis and medicine. In the early hours of Dec 26th, Robert drove himself to the ER and was intubated and transported to the hospital immediately. Within a couple of hours, his status had taken a turn for the worse. With his diagnosis now being influenza, both his lungs and heart were on the verge of failing. After meeting with the surgeon and learning that Robert had a very minimal chance of survival, he underwent surgery to be placed with an Impella in his heart, along with ECMO, the highest form of life support. Although the odds were against him, Robert fought for his life and started to make slight progress. With a heavy heart, the decision was made to amputate both legs above the knee, changing the course of his life. Robert has fought for his life relentlessly for over a week now, all while being on ECMO for both his heart and lungs, a ventilator, having an Impella, needing a dialysis machine, and being pumped with countless amounts of medication.
How the money would be used:
Please help Robert and our family take a step in the right direction during this difficult time. All of the finances would go towards allowing Robert to live the rest of his life to the fullest: getting him the proper physical therapy that would allow him to walk again, getting the proper prosthetics that will allow him to play with his children, funds to afford the long road of medication and dialysis ahead of him, and to reduce the stress that ultimately comes with medical bills.
