On Tuesday, November 15th, a day before his Birthday,  Robert DeBoer (Bob) passed away unexpectedly due to complications from surgery. What started with little worry suddenly became a nightmare that nobody expected.  Bob went in to surgery to have a large mass removed that the doctor found while performing a colonoscopy.   Bob never showed fear. He acted as if this surgery was "no big deal".  We said our goodbyes to him but never thought that would be the last time we would see him. He never wanted anyone to worry.  In fact, we figured he would be around forever because of his positive attitude.  We loved that about him.  It turns out he was a semi healthy man at age 66.  But, during surgery the surgeon hit an artery which caused him to bleed internally.  His heart held up strong until it just couldn't take anymore.  At that time his b/p dropped and he suffered a massive heartattack.  They performed CPR for one hour.   He had lost too much blood and his heart couldn't take it anymore.  He left us and become our angel at 2:06 p.m. that same day.

Bob was a wonderful grandpa!  He had four grandkids.  Maci (17), Ashlyn (13), Logan (11), and Kale (7).  Grandpa Bob/Papa enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports.  That was his happiness.  We all knew that he would be their he didn't miss the kids games.  He picked grandkids up from school, helped them with homework, played numerous board games with kids, played with them outside, and taught my son, Logan how to pitch.  Baseball was Bob's favorite sport and he was sure Logan would someday be an all star.  He was in fantasy football with Logan and talked football on a daily basis with him.  Right now Bob is leading in fantasy football.  That makes me smile.  He's smiling above I know he is.  He was so proud of his oldest granddaughter, Maci.  She was the brains of the family and recently got a scholarship to UNL.   She loved history and learned so much of that from her Papa.    Bob would say Ashlyn is the creative one and the one that always had tricks up her sleeve.  She could come up with amazing crafts that made him smile.  Just last week he let her paint him blue.  He was a fun grandpa!   Kale, his youngest grandson, was a lover that kept him going.  Bob referred to him as "dude" and thought Kale was so funny.  Bob had MANY stories he shared with the grandkids.  They enjoyed his stories.  Logan wrote them down as a reminder so he would never forget them.  I found that on his dresser last night.  Bob was our sitter.  He experienced so much with the kids from babies to toddlers to teens.    It was never about him it was about them.   He has his own special relationship with all 4 of them.

Bob was a wonderful dad to Jeff (42), and Jill (37).  And, a supportive father figure to Joe (29).

Bob was a Army Vietnam Veteran and served from 1968-1971.   He spent his free time with his grandkids and his dog, Max.  He lived with Marilyn, his ex-wife, and helped her with what he could.  He was a good friend to Marilyn, a great listener, and gave good advice.  Marilyn would tell you he was her best friend.  He was selfless and cared about his family so much! He grew up in York.  His sister, Ann, and brother, Pat reside there.

My name is Nikki (Jeff's wife). Bob is my father-in-law.  I am hoping to raise money to help with my father-in-laws funeral.  He did not  have life insurance.  If your willing to help us, your donation in any amount,  is highly appreciated.  God Bless!
