On January 10th around 6:50 in the morning, an explosion was felt across Kneeland and reported as far away as Fickle Hill. Robert and Delores were waking up in their bedroom tower and thought a tree had hit the house. When they dropped down from their bedroom loft they could see the glow of flames from the first floor. They ran down the staircase, and due to the windows being blown out and the strong winds, the fire was quickly moving into the lower floor from the garage area. Robert called 911, and by the time that call was finished, the house was becoming fully engulfed in flames. They grabbed their wallets and a computer tower and ran out the door. Living out in Kneeland is beautiful but at a cost to timely emergency services and city fire hydrants, and Robert and Delores had to watch their beloved house filled with their entire life burn to the ground. Their lifelong possessions, clothes, paintings, plants, artifacts from their world travels, all gone. It is an agonizing, traumatic event to lose everything. Imagine not even having a toothbrush. A hairbrush. Your favorite pillow. Everything is gone. The firefighters were amazed that Robert and Delores were alive and unscathed. Feeling the explosion firsthand as their neighbor, I don't understand how they are alive either. The firefighters don't know what started the fire or what exploded, and we may never know. There are many people who love and care about Robert and Delores and have been asking how they can help or donate to help them rebuild their Iives. In that regards, the "personal property" category of their insurance was too small (check yours carefully!), which is everything but the house structure and vehicles. (Those 2 sections of their insurance are excellent). I have arranged this GoFundMe as a way for people to help them out with the things that will go into their next house, or you can also use Delores's Venmo account, @delores-haskamp. Thank you so much!
