On August 21, 2025, my mom, Emily, lost her husband, Robert (“Bob”), of over 40 years. Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. Together, Emily and Bob built a lifetime of love and devotion. In recent years, as Bob’s health declined from prostate cancer, my mom was by his side day and night, caring for him around the clock, often sacrificing her own health to make sure he was cared for. His passing has left her alone, heartbroken, and facing a reality she never imagined.
I’ll be honest, my stepdad and I didn’t have the best relationship, and for many years we had no connection. But this isn’t about the past. What matters now is my love for my mom, and that love is stronger than anything else. She was devoted to him in every way, and now she needs care, compassion, and support as she learns to take steps forward without him.
I never planned to create a fundraiser, and truthfully, it’s something I didn’t want to do. But so many of you have asked how you could help and support from afar. After much thought, I realized that the best way to honor my mom is to set aside my own pride and open the door for her to receive the love and encouragement she deserves.
The funds raised will go directly toward helping my mom with the unexpected costs that come after losing a spouse; funeral and memorial expenses, household needs, and simply giving her some breathing room as she adjusts to this difficult new chapter.
This isn’t just about donations; it’s about wrapping my mom in love, kindness, and gentle reminders that she doesn’t have to walk through this alone.
Whether through a gift here, a kind word, or simply keeping her in your prayers, your support means more than you know.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for showing love to my mom, Emily, in this season. Every bit of love and support you share with her is also felt by me, and I’m humbled, and deeply grateful.
Some have asked about giving directly. If you’d prefer, you can also support her through Venmo @MariaEmma-Burns (Last 4 of her # 6539).
