One person is dead and another airlifted after a car was hit at a railroad crossing just east of Erie on Saturday around 12:30 PM.
The car was traveling north on Smit Road and was struck by a BNSF train that was east bound at a crossing next to Moline Road.
The driver a 65 year old male died at the scene and a 16 years old female, the front seat passenger and a family member of the driver, was airlifted from the scene by Medforce to Iowa City for life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. No names will be released until after 8 AM on Monday morning.
Breanna is currently fighting! She’s strong! She has a brain bleed, all of her ribs are fractured, broken collar bone, bleeding from her ears, missing a piece from her liver, punctured lung, and also a piece of her spine is gone.
Our dad is now in a better place and not struggling anymore. He will be deeply missed forever and will be in our hearts for eternity. RIP Dad!!
