Here is my father-in-law, Robert Corsi, hard at work in his office at the age of 70. He worked hard his whole life to provide for his family doing what he loved. However, this past year he has been in and out of the hospital 4 times.
In February, Rob went in for knee surgery. He thought he was going to have a whole new life and finally get to enjoy some retirement. He was really looking forward to getting out on the golf course again once his knee was no longer so painful. He told the grandkids that he was going to teach them how to play baseball and he couldn't wait!
Rob came home to recover from the knee surgery, but when his rehab appointments were about to begin, in March, he had a heart attack. Luckily he survived the heart attack. Now, he had cardiac rehab appointments to add on to his knee rehabilitation appointments. It looked like the road to recovery would be even longer than he anticipated. My father is a strong man, though, so I knew he would fight through it and emerge victorious on the other side.
We brought our patriarch home once again, but he just didn't seem to be getting better. He had to be on oxygen all the time. He kept falling down and he didn't seem to be himself. His formidable, jovial personality was missing. The familiar spark in his eye just wasn't there. Things went from bad to worse. Rob was hospitalized once again in August because his liver was shutting down.
The valiant nurses and doctors worked long and tirelessly to save his liver and thought they had succeeded. They sent him to a short-term rehab facility to recover further, but he was soon sent back to the hospital a fourth time a few weeks later. This time the news was less hopeful. Our valiant father, brother, grandfather, and husband would not play golf again. The doctor told us last weekend that Rob is dying and there is no stopping it. He is on hospice care and we are keeping him comfortable while we say our goodbyes. We are so grateful to have this window to say goodbye and visit again with our beloved friend.
However, the medical bills and Rob's long-term hiatus from his business have left his family unable to afford all the end-of-life costs. Please donate to our memorial fund and help us to take care of our father the way he took care of us.
