Robbo’s Veterinary Fees

Hi, my name is Jan and I’d like to tell you a bit about poor sweet Robbo and his journey so far.

Robbo is a 9 year old much loved and sweet natured German Shepherd belonging to Erika & Eric Jones. Robbo has been desperately ill since Boxing Day and has been in and out of The Willows Veterinary Centre at Solihull ever since.

To say Robbo’s story is a complicated one really is playing it down. Robbo has eaten nothing of any substance since Boxing Day, has suffered continual spikes in his temperature and medication has not been successful in controlling this. In addition to this one of Robbo’s inner ear’s is showing signs of disease which now requires surgery. A Total Ear Canal Ablation (removal of the entire ear canal) is an extremely invasive and costly procedure costing in the region of £6k. This is in addition to £5k already spent on an MRI scan and £4k for two CT scans. All this plus the cost of blood tests, medication and costly vet visits. However, this is still not the full extent of Robbo’s problems. The vets at The Willows still feel that there is something else underlying going on, yet despite extensive blood work and numerous other tests have still not been able to come up with a diagnosis.

Up to now Erika and Eric have borne the majority of these costs from their own pockets. Only a small amount was covered by their pet insurance.

I have been following Robbo’s journey from the beginning and it particularly resonates with me as I have two dogs of my own so understand what Robbo means to Erika & Eric and what a worrying time this is for them.
