Robbo's Fight

I am sorry. There is nothing more we can do. Palliative care. Your father is dying. - Just a few choice words we have heard over the past few weeks.

Robbo was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in Feb 18 and began treatment in Melbourne with his wife Anita by his side.
After 2 rounds of Chemo he was scheduled for a Bone Marrow Transplant, only for the donor to pull out just prior due to unknown reasons. So Robbo moved to another hospital to be the 16th person in the state to receive a HAPLO transplant - a half matched donor would be required, with more risks than a full match but still had a 55% success rate of life saving.
In June 2018 his daughter Lisa donated her bone marrow stem cells to her dad.

An amazing healthy 5 months went by, Robbo ticked all the boxes, excelled in all the Dr and Physio tests & showed just how strong & resilient he is.
Robbo had a huge 60th Birthday party in November at home in Bairnsdale surrounded by loved ones for a full weekend of love & laughter.

Early December 2018, Robbo & Anita had a nice short trip planned in Tasmania, unfortunately a few days into their trip Robbo fell ill.
On the 5th December he was placed in Royal Hobart Hospital ICU on a ventilator which was breathing for him as something was attacking his lungs at a significant pace.
His daughter Lisa & brother Bruce flew into Tasmania to be by Robbo and Anita's side in unknown Tasmania.
22nd December Robbo was stable enough  to be flown via Medevac to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He was again placed in ICU where he spent Christmas and rang in the New Year.

New year's eve came the first of many emotional conversations with his medical team. We were told the horrible news that none of the treatments were working and that if required, they would not resuscitate.

Robbo is still working on his oxygen levels one small step at a time, although he is now in Palliative care.
His goal is to reach low enough oxygen help so that he can come home with a little oxygen tank friend. Until then we wait in hospital, Anita sleeping by his side in a chair, with Lisa not far away. And family and friends visiting when they can.

Unfortunately with these long hospital stays and with his family coming from far to spend time with him we have come to realize that we need a little help.

All donated funds will help pay the ongoing costs of family to travel to and from interstate, the accommodation costs of $52 per night for the small unit we currently stay in, hospital parking and the day to day unexpected costs when you spend all hours at a hospital without a kitchen near by.

We appreciate all the help we have received, it all helps us spend every minute we can with our Robbo!
Our husband, our father, our Pa, our brother, our friend: Our Hero!
