Robbie Sumner's MS Treatment
Donation protected
Meet my wife, Roberta Sumner. Professional musician, vocalist, lyricist, composer, military veteran, the love of my life, and the center of my universe.
In 2010 Robbie Sumner was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (commonly abbreviated MS). MS is a debilitating disease that causes white blood cells to attack the myelin sheath, which leads to interruption in the connection between the neurons in the brain, resulting in a wide variety of symptoms over time including numbness, fatigue, incontinence, and paralysis just to name a few. There is no cure.
A member of the United States Navy Music Program at the time of diagnosis, Robbie had no choice but to be medically discharged after 7 years of service. At the time of diagnosis, she was told that she would confined to a wheelchair within 5 years. Since then, she has attempted several medications designed to slow the progression of the disease with no promise of a possible cure or way to stop the progression, but remains strong and is still able to walk with the aid of a cane.
Now, for the first time there is hope for people like a Robbie. A new stem cell treatment is available, one that has shown great promise in human trials to not only stop the progression of MS, but repairs the damage left in its wake, reverse the symptoms caused by the damage. It has helped many individuals in the MS community to live normal lives again, reducing fatigue and numbness, and even returning the ability to stand, walk, and run unassisted to those that underwent the treatment.
Unfortunately, the treatment is very expensive and we would have to travel far to receive the treatment. This is where we hope you can come in.
The treatment is offered by StemGenex in San Diego, California and costs $17,000. The money that you donate will go a long way in helping us pay for the treatment and the travel. Though we are not expecting to hit our goal, every little bit helps, and with your help, we know that we will be one step closer to affording this life-changing treatment.
