We are Roger and Jenni Otterson. We were robbed of our life savings on February 14, 2022, Valentine’s Day, at a Truck Stop on I-10 in New Mexico. The photo shows us in happier times.
We have spent the past four years traveling the country, looking for the perfect place to spend the rest of our lives. We decided to pick that spot early this year and begin the future. Those hopes and dreams were dashed on Valentine’s Day when a thief entered our motor home uninvited and took the lockbox with all of our savings, the money we had intended to use to purchase our dream home.
Police were called; they took our statements, talked to witnesses, filed a report and said, “We are very sorry, but there is not much we can do since no one saw the vehicle they escaped in. And since we are located on the Interstate, they could have gone anywhere.” They did not consult Jenni in any depth. She can still see the face of one of the robbers and would have been willing to look at photo books or even work with a sketch artist.
There were no surveillance cameras. Our hopes and dreams were dashed, gone with that lockbox. We are devastated, and soon we will be destitute. At age 73, we have little hope of replacing what we lost. We are asking for assistance to provide funds for living expenses for at least a few months while we try to find jobs that are willing to hire people of our age while we continue to find a place to live out the rest of our lives. I hope you can help us.

We have had a full and somewhat exciting life. We met in Sunday School when we were five years old. We fell in love at 16 and married at 18, more than 55 years ago. We went to school, Ag Tech Institute in Wooster, Ohio. After that, we became Harness Race Horse trainers for about 20 years. We worked on a small farm in Florida. We both went back to college in the 90s. Roger became a wildlife biologist and worked in the Environmental Protection Office at Camp Blanding and with Power Line surveys. Jenni became an environmental science technician, working in Testing Labs and a water bottling plant.
We worked at these new professions until Roger became disabled on the job. We retired and lived in Belize for eight years, where we restored a house. Then a serious injury forced a return to the US. Eventually we went on the road in a small motor home, looking for our forever home. We don't know what we can do now.
