Robbed but not defeated

Hello Nelson!

I am the proud owner of Zuke's Gaming. I host gaming events for Magic: the Gathering, Warhammer and other non-electronic games. I also have a board game rental library at my store. I'm located below Reo's video on Front St.

My mission is to create a safe and welcoming place for anyone to come and share their passion for games. Games provide an opportunity to connect over intellectual and emotional challenge. They can bridge the gap between people of vastly different age brackets, social demographics, and other divides. I've had the pleasure of watching as new gamers of any age come in and find their community. Adults teach kids and vice versa.

Sadly, I have to report that my store took a fairly large hit last week:

I was burgled some time between Saturday, August 3 and Thursday August 8.

I am working with the police, my insurance, and a private investigator. We managed to recover some items that were subsequently sold in Trail, though I am still out around $9000 worth of Magic cards (yes, they have great value as collectors items). It appears unlikely that the rest will be recovered, or that insurance will cover much (especially after I pay my deductible) and likely not in a timely manner .

I have been in business for a whole four months. I was just getting to the point where I had covered a good portion of my initial investment. Unfortunately the business is still in a vulnerable state, and I need help to recover.

To that end - I'm hosting an "I got robbed" event at the end of September. There will be magic and food and Catan. Also good times. I'd like to put this little trauma behind me with some class, and keep this gaming community alive and kicking. I'm suggesting a $50 donation for entry.

I'm also closed for a few weeks as I wade through this mess. Any donations in the next couple weeks (before September) will help me afford to restock the store so I can open again in September.

If you are money light but would still like to help: send me a facebook message to Zuke's Gaming. There are some organizing and hosting tasks which I could use help with.

If you have the financial ability and value what I'm trying to build, then any financial support beyond $50 is very welcome. I'll be able to honour your donations as publicly or privately as you see fit.

I wish I didn't need to fall back on my community that has already shown me such support. I pride myself on being able to  solve problems and build things on my own, but this time I don't think I've got it.

Thanks for reading.

Josh, Zuke's Gaming
