On July 6, 2020 Robb was admitted with suspected Covid 19. Through a series of tests Covid was ruled out and Robb was moved off the isolation floor. On the morning of July 8, we learned that Robb has leukemia. In the days following additional tests found that Robb has Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). Robb's treatment started with a 7 + 3 regimen. Early August Robb achieved remission and was allowed to leave the Hospital just in time to celebrate his youngest girl's birthday. He has and will continue to receive consolidation chemotherapy, keeping him in remission, until he is able to receive a transplant.
Robb celebrated his 40th birthday on August 27 and was incredibly happy to be able to spend it with his fiance and their two girls.
As of September 17, 2020 Robb has confirmed donors and a tentative transplant schedule.
Over the next few weeks Robb will continue to have check in appointments with his doctors as well as additional Consolidation Chemotherapy. The Consolidation Therapy includes a 3 night stay in the hospital while receiving continuous chemotherapy drugs through IV. Robb will also need to have additional doctor visits to asses potential infection risks prior to the transplant.
October 20, 2020 Robb will be admitted to the hospital for his transplant, a minimum of 30 days. He will undergo intense chemotherapy for 4 days. This chemotherapy will kill his remaining bone marrow in preparation for the transplant. He will have 3 days to recover strength before he receives the transplant on October 27, 2020. After this point there is no schedule just goals: blood count recovery, infection free, returned appetite, measurable daily activity, no signs of Graft vs Host Disease, just to name the big items.
After Robb is discharged he will have to have 24/7 care for at least 30 days and if any signs of infection occur he will have to be readmitted to the hospital. The goal after discharge is to get to day 100. After day 100 is year 2. Robb wants to beat this cancer and we want him to beat this cancer. He is strong and he is fighting this. It is going to be a long hard journey for him and his family.
We have put this GoFundMe together to ease the financial burden. Treatments are expensive and Robb will not be able to work for a while. Funds received will be used primarily to pay medical bills. Any additional funds raised here will be used to rebuild his life during recovery.
A little about Robb: He has the kind of smile that takes over his face and warms your heart. He has a light about him that fills the room. Even through this, he is positive and grateful for all he is given. He is kind and generous. The kind of guy who drops everything to drive across 3 states to help a friend in need. A gentle giant who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He is a hard working family man with a young family. He gives of his time, his effort, blood, sweat, and tears. As our brother we feel we have benefited greatly from his example of how to be a better human.
If you have the ability to donate to this cause, I know that his family (all of us, there are many), would eternally be grateful for your gift.
We will continue to post updates to this page with progress in his treatment and communication from the family. We appreciate you.
