Rob Wilson is a true legend in motor racing and an exceptional driver coach. Many of you will already know that he has been living with kidney failure for nearly two years and has been waiting for a life-saving transplant. Rob has always been someone who supports others—offering advice, making connections, and helping people along the way without ever expecting anything in return. That`s Rob.
Yet here is Rob in terminal renal failure - dialysis is only a temporary procedure. Rob needs a new kidney.
There is now some wonderful news: a living donor has come forward, meaning Rob can finally undergo a kidney transplant. While the procedure itself will take place within the NHS, there are still significant practical costs involved in making it all possible.
Rob will need support during his recovery, as he is expected to be off work for several months.
The donor—Rob’s friend and fellow musician, Georges Kaye—has stepped forward to make this transplant possible, either directly or through a paired exchange. A miracle.
This fundraiser has been organised by a group of Rob’s close friends, who have already contributed themselves. This fund is for Rob`s support. Georges does not benefit from any of this.
Donor Georges Kaye is a doctor who became deeply interested in kidney donation after reading about it in the press. Georges is already raising awareness of the dearth of kidneys through this experience and has been encouraging wider support for transplant initiatives, especially those at Hammersmith Hospital where he is very close to the Live Donor Team. He believes living kidney donation is something that deserves far greater public attention. He`s started a book and a documentary is being planned.
