On September 8th, 2020, near Medford Oregon, our oldest brother Rob Visel, a father and Marine veteran, lost both his home and business to a wildfire that rapidly spread through the area.
He happened to glance out of his shop to notice smoke rolling past. His first thoughts were not about his possessions but to get a 97 year old neighbor to safety. Over the next several hours, over 600 homes and over 100 businesses were completely destroyed.
It's hard to imagine how anyone would feel when your home, all your personal possessions, your tools of your trade, everything except the vehicle you escaped with, are gone in a matter of hours. Ashes, nothing more. Insurance may cover some of it, but starting over is going to be a life changing experience.
Rob has never asked for anything, he's always been a giver. He's such a humble person. But now he's lost everything. He's starting over. Rob is the oldest of our family of twelve. He always looked out for us when we were younger. He was always my inspiration and hero, the one I always looked up to, especially when our parents were too busy taking care of this or that while growing up on a farm. Rob was always there. He was always one who was up for a new adventure. As an extremely talented glass blower, he made his mark while living in New Zealand. When he returned to the states, another amazing talent came to life, that of a stone carver. He has left his mark on many homes and business throughout Washington and Oregon. You can see some of his work at this smug mug site: https://rovi.smugmug.com.
Rob is not the young pup he used to be and starting over at this stage in life is going to be tough, especially starting at ground zero. He was never rich with possessions. Life was about helping others. Now, with everything gone, he needs the basics to start over. He has a temporary place to live, but it's definitely not permanent. I'm trying to raise the immediate need of at least $10,000 to help him with the clothes, food, shelter, and a basic set of tools in order for him to return to work.
Let's help him get back on his feet. It's the least we can do. Thanks in advance for your understanding, your financial support and prayers. The burden is heavy for him right now, let's lighten the load! God bless!
