In loving memory of Robert Ryan Beck, Sr. (February 23, 1963 – May 29, 2019)
It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Robert Ryan Beck, Sr., beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He went into cardiac arrest while at work on May 29, 2019, and though he was transported to the hospital, he was unable to be revived. Rob is survived by his sons, Robert Ryan Jr. and Joshua Robert, his mother, step-father, five siblings, nieces, nephew, and a multitude of extended family and friends.
Born in Chicago, IL, Rob was the third son and last child of Ruth and the late Richard Robert Beck, Sr. to be born before the family relocated to Covina, CA in 1964. He attended Cypress and Ben Lomond Elementary Schools, Eva D. Edwards Junior High, and graduated from Northview High School with the class of 1981. He had many fond memories of playing baseball, and marching/performing with the Northview High School Band and the Velvet Knights Drum Corp in his youth.
Rob’s passion for music ignited early but sustained throughout his life; some of his happiest times were spent playing drums or attending live music shows. He knew Bach from Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart – though he had a strong preference for rock n’ roll and the blues. All he had to do was listen to a song for a second or two, and Rob would rattle off the song title, album, original artist, year it came out, and who had covered it. Rob felt music is the truest form of universal language - capable of expressing stories and emotions without words, lifting spirits to the heavens, and uniting people across all walks of life, races and religions. Music knows no boundaries or borders, it knows no color or gender, it does not bear witness or judge.
In this sentiment, his sons have asked that in lieu of flowers, all donations from this campaign will be given to the Northview High School Band, so they may continue to share more music with the world. His entire family is grateful and honored to be able to give this gift in Rob’s name.
Please help us celebrate the life of Rob Beck. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22nd at 1:00 P.M. at the Covina Methodist Church, 437 W San Bernardino Rd, Covina, CA 91723.
