Rob Batres Road to Recovery

The story I am about to tell you is an example of how our lives can change within a moment. On Saturday morning, 11 September, while cycling along Bridge Lane, Lyne, our friend Rob Batres was involved in a life-threatening accident.

The Windsor bun run a route avid-cyclist Rob and many others had taken time and time before. On the morning of the accident, Rob and three friends set on their way on what should have been a 110km return journey but ended abruptly just under 50kms in. I can only describe this as a freak accident, one caused by chance and misfortune. As Rob was cycling, his tyre hits an uneven surface in the road causing him to lose balance. At this time, an oncoming car is traveling on the opposite side of the road, the two collide. Rob is struck and thrown back onto the side he was traveling, and narrowly missed being hit by a second car, stopping moments from where he lands.

The injury list is extensive and; includes a shattered pelvis, dislocated shoulder and elbow, broken ribs, and head trauma.

Rob has been in hospital for just under a month now, heavily sedated as doctors and nurses work around the clock monitoring his progress.

His father and brother have flown in from Australia to be by his side.

We are here to raise funds for his road to recovery. While he is not out of the woods yet, Rob is a survivor, and we know his journey ahead will be tough. By taking away the financial burden, we want him and his family to focus on one thing, his rehabilitation.

The money raised will go to Rob’s recovery; and living expenses for him and his family while in London.
