An open letter to our friend Rob:
You were always so many things. A brother to us all, a confidant and friend, a dedicated manager, a mean poker player, someone we could always count on, the guy with the goofy laugh and the flashy, quick blue eyes that served as constant reassurance that things would be OK. And, worst case, if they weren’t OK, well...it’s just life. No need to take it too seriously. A quick shrug from you was all we needed to reset and all would be right in the world again.
You always made sure to put everyone’s needs before your own, and never made it seem like an inconvenience or a hassle. In the toughest of times, when all we could manage to do was worry about what we had on our plates, you never worried about yourself. You carried us all on your shoulders. That was your superpower, something so rare in this life: true selflessness. Too good for this world.
You were always David to us, helping us conquer Goliath after Goliath over the years. It is always saddest when David passes, and certainly when there were many more Goliaths left to slay. But today we seek solace in the proportions of what you accomplished in your short time. A life well-lived. From today, we will forever carry around the magnitude of you, an additional dimension of meaning to our lives.
Rob--thank you for everything you have done, you couldn’t imagine what it has meant to all of us.
