BEARSGONENUCLEAR2025 ☢️
Through several organised fundraisers including Nuclear Races (10.05.25) we are aiming to raise £1.5K to support little Hugh and his family through these difficult times. His story is below and we hope you will help us.
Hi everyone,
This is Hugh. He's fighting cancer, and I'm asking you to join me in fighting with him. Here are the words of his Mum, Emily; a friend of mine at school in days which feel long gone by:
24 June 2024 "So, four weeks ago our lives just got a little crazier. Hugh was sent home from school with a swollen neck and headed off to A&E for a mystery lump. We had the doctors at Darent Valley Hospital scratching their heads and after an ultrasound, MRI and a referral to Marsden Hospital we were sent on our merry way. What followed was biopsies and a PET scan which confirmed our fears. Our little boy has a confirmed diagnosis of Parameningial Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma."
The family are amazing, and this is their last update from 23 October: "These last four weeks have really shaken things up a little. We packed our bags and made a temporary home in the big city for proton beam therapy. 1 blood transfusion, 2 NG tubes, 4 dressing changes, 8 blood tests, 16 PBT treatments under general anaesthetic, and 1 cycle of chemotherapy. You've been suitably annoying during audiology, ophthalmology, psych assessments, weekly SALT/dietician, OT/physio and several consultant appointments. I think the daily competition you have with the anaesthetic is by far the most challenging (I've never heard an anaesthetist panic that they were going to run out of drugs before)! I don't know how you've managed it but we have managed to squeeze in some fun too. Well, we can't come to the big smoke and not have a little fun now can we?!"
Jan 2025: "The last four weeks surprised us.
Just a month of dressing changes, bloods, an MRI, and a chest x-ray.
No admissions!
You had a chance to be with your brothers and the sounds of nerf battles, squabbling, and laughter have been both joy and agony for our ears.
We start the year feeling positive as we embark on the next chapter in this story. The baddies look like they're surrendering but we'll continue to send in the troops, my boy, because this is a fight worth having."
They are fighting as hard as they can. With your help, I want them to be able to fight harder. Are you up for a day of mud and team antics? Will you let out a big roar for Hugh?
I know that Cancer is a personal enemy for many of us and our families. Let's give another big blow. F*ck Cancer.
