Have you ever imagined what you could do if you ignored all the limitations imposed on you?
That's what my team and I are striving for -- to do the incredible, the impossible, the wild, the unimaginable, the awesome. We dream of empty cages, of fewer unwanted pets, and of more happy tails. But how do we get there?
We grappled with this for a while, and then a friend's dream of living in a school bus became a reality for him. That's when it dawned on me -- we could buy a retired school bus, pull out all the seats, install a bunk bed frame, and drive around the country saving animals in high-intake shelters. Why a school bus?
For starters, older retired school buses are pretty cheap! You can buy a decent, running school bus about halfway through its expected lifetime for around $3000. School buses are built to run nearly 300,000 miles in their lifetime! Most buses are also American-made, so maintenance and repairs are quite affordable for the size of the vehicle too.
Also, if you haven't noticed, school buses are super spacious, especially when they're empty! Emptying out our bus would allow us to safely and securely transport a couple dozen (or more!) animals at once as well as sleep in the bus, saving on number of trips, gasoline, rental fees for too-small vans, and hotel costs. What will my donation go towards?
While I am saving up as much of my own money as I can, all donations will go directly towards purchasing our school bus. Any remaining funds (as prices will vary) will go towards tools to remove the seats and install bunk beds, possible repairs needed, titling the vehicle, paint (buses must
be painted a color other than yellow), and insurance, as well as other costs directly connected to the bus. *If we are for some reason unable to purchase a bus, all donations will be returned.
