Last month Road To Freedom travelled to Idomeni on the border of Greece and Macedonia, what lied within this hopeless makeshift camp was a segregated group of forgotten, desperate souls who have nothing left, except hope. The hope that perhaps one day their fellow humans will locate their hearts and open the borders offering a safe passage to a life every human being deserves.
On our most recent trip, we spent eight days in Idomeni carrying out different tasks. As well as buying and distributing aid to individual tents in Idomeni, making sure every tent got what they required, we helped the Al-Khair Foundation prep for lunch and dinner distributions, organising a children’s party at the Idomeni Cultural Centre, and doing a PE lesson at the Idomeni Cultural Centre school. We travelled to a school squat in Athens, and distributed aid there.
We sat and listened to many stories so we could share to the world.
Tania and I feel compelled to make the journey back to these people who are stuck in such a high degree of hopelessness in Thessaloniki. We will be heading to Lagkadikia, a the UN operated camps near Thessaloniki, we know many families and friends who’ve moved to these camps from Idomeni and would love to work closely with the UN for a week and top to provide food, clothing and hygiene items at all camps.
We shall be returning to Lagkadikia, from June 22nd – 29th, aiming to raise £1500 which will be used to purchase and provide food, clothing, blankets and whatever aid is required when we arrive.
Not many hours manage to pass in a day without our thoughts wondering to not only all the wonderful people we’ve met on trips so far but to all who suffer the demise of a war torn nation.
Please donate what you can.
