The Ka'iwi Channel (Channel of Bones) crosses 32 miles from Molokai to Oahu, and is 2300 feet deep. 30 counties are represented and the event currently holds 35 world records.
This is the race that all paddlers aspire to race and finish.
I have trained hard for years with a goal to take part in the Molokai to Oahu World Championships and that dream has come true for 2018!
In addition to this being a major personal bucket list event, I am using this amazing opportunity to give back!
I am trying to raise $5000US to donate to the Epic Sports Foundation who distributes the money amongst these Hawaiian Charities which include:
1. Malama Maunalua Foundation: committed to restoring the health of the ocean surrounding Oahu and beyond through habitat restoration, science and planning, and education and outreach.
2. Youth in Motion (Molokai): "Empower, Equip, Educate, Challenge and Motivate Youth through activities that engage and develop their mental, emotional, creative, and physical skills on the land and in the ocean."
3. Rell Sunn Educational Fund: a nonprofit organization that will educate the public about sportsmanship and the environment, combat juvenile delinquency, and provide monies to battle breast cancer.
4. Molokai Education Centre: a part of the University of Hawaii and provides higher education on the island.
The beneficiaries of your donation are hugely deserving, and your donation will not only help them, it will also help keep this great event alive in the future.
Thank you to Canadian Overseas Log & Lumber and WWW Timber Products for kickstarting this journey. Companies like this make all the difference!
