Road to SXSW for 79.5
Donation protected
Hey y'all, we are thrilled that 79.5 has been asked to play SXSW this year in beautiful Austin, TX! Whoo! It will be our first time there as a band. We have been raising money behind the scenes to get to Texas , and have found some truly amazing sponsors.
We are almost there!
We are now turning to our friends, family, friends of friends, womxn in music, supporters of womxn in music, new mothers, mothers, non mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, extended office families and just great people to help out a good old fashioned (for the modern folk) fundraiser. We're looking to get that last extra kick of support so that we can make sure everyone is cool, safe, happy, fed, sleeping comfortably and our vehicle is filled with tanks of gas.
We have a unique and beautiful extenuating circumstance in our travels to Texas - Adrienne, our fearless and badass bassist, just gave birth to a healthy baby boy in November. She is nursing and needs to bring her son with her. We are also bringing Adrienne's mom, Beverly, who is equally as amazing, super cute and a bomb cook, to help out with the baby while we are performing.

We feel so blessed by this experience!
As some of you may know, compensation for musicians at these festivals does not equal the amount of time and money put in, nor how much financial backing it takes to actually get there. In fact, PayScale reported last year the still staunch pay gap for female musicians when compared with their male counterparts. This ongoing inequity only reinforces the strong need for groups led by womxn artists to emphasize the need to eliminate this gap, promoting responsibility within the industry, and inspiring future generations of talent and activism.
I was recently asked, "Why are you going to SXSW, what are you promoting?"
It comes down rather simply to a card I got from my bandmate Adrienne, this past summer, when I was living in Detroit. See, I moved rather quickly and quietly to Detroit in late 2018 to take care of my health. It was a move that I'll never regret, because I gained the gift of perspective. Adrienne, who was pregnant and with her own worries at the time, was so caring and kind, had encouraged me to keep going, when I thought I couldn't. That card of kindness reignited a spark in me to never give up. I moved back to NYC late 2019 and we've been working hard ever since.
So why are we going to SXSW and what are we promoting? We are going because we want to show the world what we can do! We are promoting the strength of womxn, helping one another out, through music. We have our strongest voice in solidarity when we are on stage performing, when we are recording, when we are creating music. And ya know what? We have some super dope new music and are ready to share it at SXSW!
This opportunity means the world to us, and the chance to expose our message of solidarity, of friendship, of womxn empowerment and motherhood to thousands is going to help us get to that next level.
Friends and family, one dollar can help us!
$5 can help us. Any amount can help.
If you've never seen 79.5 play live before, and want to help, maybe think about it this way-- we have 3 shows scheduled thus far down in Austin, and ticket prices for live shows are on average $15 a show. That $15 a show could be so helpful!
Truly, any amount can help us fill a tank of gas, help with equipment rental, lodging, meals, unexpected disco mosh pit injuries, you name it.
Again, any amount helps.
Thank you so kindly for reading this, and we are just doing a short run of fundraising here, please feel free to share our unique message with anyone you know!
We thank you so very much.
Much love,
Kate Mattison
