Road to Recovery: Nyrmelis Sanchez
Donation protected
Nyrmelis Sanchez has always been a dreamer. Growing up she loved sports and had the opportunity to run track & field, play basketball, softball, soccer, and even flag football. However, what she loved the most was art and music. At the age of seven, she learned to play the drums while participating in a group called Las Batuteras Sigma Corp in her hometown, Arroyo, PR.
In elementary school she learned to play the flute, and while transitioning to junior high school she took a liking to the clarinet along with the guitar. She also loved to write poems and every time she had free time, she wrote for hours. For as long as I can remember she was always saying that she wanted to be a singer. Nyrmelis went on to continue her studies and gained a BA of Arts with a concentration in radio, television, and film at the Turabo University now Ana G. Mendez in Gurabo, PR.
When not in school Mely sung with various bands in Puerto Rico and recorded her first studio album with the SKA band “Sinkronia” in 2016. In 2017 after the devastation of hurricane Maria she moved to Orlando, Florida. Looking for a fresh start, she began working full time managing a Latin restaurant all while balancing her free time to work on her craft.
In Orlando she’s recorded with several artist and recently released her first single as an independent artist “Espejismo ” and was expecting a follow up release in June 2021. Mely came to visit Austin for the first time in 2019 to perform with local Artist and friend, Stephy Lee. In her words “Austin is a vibe” and she wanted to come back here. After being laid off due to the pandemic it opened the doors for her to return and find inspiration for her new solo project.
In the early morning of April 24, 2021 Mely, along with Stephy Lee and her team were in a tragic car accident traveling from Stephy Lee’s performance in San Antonio. Mely was supporting her on her 4-city tour in Texas. It was the second night when they were struck from behind by another vehicle spinning them out of control on I-35 Northbound. Once the car stopped on the shoulder, the crew exited the car to make sure everyone was ok and called 911. All of the passengers who were standing outside of the car were struck again by a second car sending then flying yards in the air. At this time all of the passengers were severely injured, leaving 3 in critical condition and sadly one team member left dead.
Mely is recovering very slowly from her injuries. She has had surgery to place metal rods in her leg where her right femur broke in two places. She has multiple fractures and lacerations to the face. She has a fracture on her right wrist with multiple fractures on the small bones of her right hand. She also has a blood clot on the right side of her brain which has kept her confused. She has multiple contusions on her head and body. Her right eye is also injured. Currently her cognitive and motor skills are being affected and we know we have a long road to recovery. God has given her a second chance of life and because of the magnitude of the accident we know that only God has protected her from death. Thanks to God she is still here.
Mely Sanchez has no medical insurance and is now facing an exponential amount of medical expenses along with the costs of physical therapy, medicine, and the rehabilitation cost she will need before returning home. We are putting this GO FUND ME campaign together to help Mely and her family in this unfortunate circumstance.
Mely will continue to follow her dreams of being an artist and this will not be the end. She was born to sing and perform, to make people happy and make them identify with her lyrics. We are asking for help to keep her dream alive. If it came out of your heart to donate, you will be giving the opportunity to make a dream come true.
We thank you for helping her during this second chance God has granted to her. We also ask for you to help donate to her friend Stephy Lee Donation Link as she remains in ICU and undergoing surgeries at this time our prayers remain with her and her family.
