Road to recovery for Rudy

Donation protected
On behalf of Rudy López, The López family would like to start off by thanking you for taking your time to read this.

A little back story about Rudy.  He is a sole provider to his family of two beautiful daughters: Katie and Miley, and his wife Cynthia.

On August 6th 2019, Rudy went into the Watsonville Community Hospital with cold like symptoms and respiratory issues. After being hospitalized for two days, he was discharged by the medics with antibiotics and an inhaler to treat pneumonia.

As his condition worsen, Rudy was rushed to the emergency room on the early hours of August 11th.  Rudy displayed a bad case of pneumonia in both lungs, with low oxygen levels and low blood pressure. Seeing his condition, doctors transferred him into the ICU and attached Rudy to a respiratory machine.

Over the next couple of days Rudy was being tested for any possible infection, virus, and fungus to determine if there was an underlying illness besides pneumonia.  As these tests were coming back negative Rudy’s condition took a turn for the worse.

August 14th and the following days to come: Rudy was put into an induced coma and attached to a ventilator to do the breathing for him. Rudy was then air lifted to UCSF Medical Center.

Placed on a special rotating bed to minimize the swelling in his lungs. This procedure took place up until the 22nd.

August 23rd: Rudy was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that is attacking his lungs.

Due to the extent of having the breathing tube in his throat for two weeks,  Rudy underwent a tracheostomy surgery on August 28th.

As he is receiving treatment for his condition, Rudy has a long road ahead of him.  Doctors have notified our family that there’s a possibility he will need lung transplant in the future due to severe damage and scar tissue that has taken place throughout this time.

Any and all donations received are greatly appreciated and will be going toward medical bills and the well being of his daughters.

Please keep Rudy in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you,
The Lopez Family
