Road to National Golden Gloves 2022
Donation protected
Hi, we are representing the State of Washington and the Western Region at the upcoming 2022 National Golden Gloves in Tulsa, OK. We are both boxers training out of Seattle, WA under coach Ricardo Acuna. We started boxing as students at the University of Washington for the Husky Boxing team, at Emerald City Boxing Gym. We both fell in love with the sport and have been active since. We have represented UW throughout the past few years within the NCBA division and local amateur division, and plan to make history at the National Golden Gloves. Unfortunately, USA boxing will not assist in our funding due to a lack of competitors in our weight class at regionals, but we are motivated to continue to work our way towards Nationals. We hope to inspire the future generation of female boxers in this uprising and male-dominated sport. Any help is greatly appreciated.
About us individually;
My name is Linghong, I will be representing the Western Region at 125 lbs this August. I recently graduated from UW with a major in Biology. I started boxing in 2017 as a Freshmen for the UW club team, and it has been one of the most impactful journey of personal growth that I've had the privilege to be a part of. Along the way, I gained discipline, leadership skills, and most importantly lifelong friends and memories. My long term goal is to become a physician and conduct research within sports medicine and cardiovascular health. I am currently a scribe for UW medicine and part time boxing instructor. I am training during most of my time off, or helping with the up and coming Husky boxing team. I enjoy reading, hiking, spending my day at the lake and video graphing.
My name is Simona, I was born and raised in Latvia. I started boxing for UW in 2018. I joined the team because I wanted to be part of a supportive community that taught discipline and team values. I sparre for the first time at the Husky Classic, (Annual team event where teammembers within the weight class box off each other for a spot to represent that weight class at NCBA tournaments) and fell in love with the sport since then. Cannot function in my everyday life without boxig. My goal in boxing is compete at a higher level, and as the new team captain, help the Huskies win a National NCBA title this upcoming season. I am currently a Junior at UW studying Biochemistry, and concurrently enrolled in Veterinary Technician program with the hope of pursuing veterinary school or PHD in Wild Rehabilitation.
