Swim Challenge for the RNLI Wellbeing Team

My name is Nigel Crang and i am a member of the Torbay Lifeboat crew. I am raising money for the RNLI wellbeing team. I've been a member of the crew for 37 years and in the last 5 years the Wellbeing team have been helping me. They diagnosed me with PTSD which was having a negative effect on my life. They paid for me to have counselling and treatment with a fantastic psychologist and have changed my life for the better. Before this I was about to leave the crew but now I am feeling much more positive about the future and feel able to continue volunteering as a crew member.
I don't think people realise the impact PTSD has on people and their families and those close to them.
I wanted to set myself a challenge and decided to enter the Brixham Breakwater Classic 50th Anniversary Swim - I enjoy swimming but have not swam this distance in open water and at the age of 60 feel this will be a challenge for me.
