Mason's journey ❤️

Donation protected
Hi my names Scott (fat boy skim) have a read of Masons story below and please donate what you can, let's help him and his family during the tough times ahead! We're happy too announce that Mason will be our first client too have his dream bedroom with the community coming together from plasterers, joiners to the house being cleaned by a professional.

Mason is a 7 year old little boy who has Autism & is sonic the hedgehog obsessed! The past few months his life has been completely turned upside down.

On Wednesday 7th February Mason went for a child friendly head MRI scan as his mum had taken him to A&E for some neck pain he was experiencing, this turned out to be “torticollis” which is cluster neck spasms. Whilst seeing the doctor mum mentioned sometimes Mason gets headaches. They were offered a scan, which she accepted, it was really for peace of mind as Mason presents a happy healthy boy.

Mum received a call the morning of Friday 9th, they told her over the phone that they had to go back to the hospital that day, as they had found something on Mason’s scan. They knew from this that meant it could never be good news.

After a discussion with the oncology team, they shared that the scan shows a brain tumour in Mason’s left side. The worst possible news any parent can hear..

Mason was back in hospital the following week to have more blood tests done, more intensive scans and lumbar puncture procedure.

They call it an incidental finding, as Mason showed no symptoms. The family, despite what they are going through, still feel very blessed to have found it before it led to neurological deficits for Mason. The headaches and neck pain were completely unrelated to the tumour.

The 20th March was Masons major brain surgery. Mason was in theatre for 8 and a half hours that day. The worst wait of his mums life. He was sent straight to critical care and they had no idea how he would recover from this. However he stunned everyone, he was an absolute powerhouse and walked out of the hospital just 5 days later - absolutely incredible

Thursday 28th March Mum went back to hospital to receive the pathology results from Masons tumour since being tested.
Unfortunately, it was not the news they wanted to hear. Mason has been diagnosed with a Grade 3 Choroid Plexus Carcinoma - a rare and aggressive type of malignant cancer.

Due to the rarity of the disease it is difficult to establish a clear prognosis so therefore Mason will be treated on an individual basis.

The next step is that Mason will start his long and gruelling journey of treatments, starting with 6 rounds of chemotherapy that will take a minimum of 6 months to complete, which will strip him of his platelets and immune system.

You don’t quite know what to do or what to say when you are told your child has cancer. You can’t help but realise what matters in life and how much we complain about things that are just mildly inconvenient. It makes you realise how fragile life is and so to make the best of what you have while you have it.

We are raising funds so that Mason’s mum can provide him with everything and anything he might need whilst they navigate through this difficult journey that no person is prepared for, never mind a 7 year old child. Any money raised will be given to Carly to use for Mason as she see’s fit to support him and ensure all of his needs are being met.

Let’s fight this every step of the way. I love you champ
