Help bring Sophia home

I’m starting this fund to assist with my niece’s medical bills.

My niece Sophia was born 7/25/20 weighing 3lbs 11oz, arriving 10 weeks earlier than her anticipated due date, with no known indication why. At birth, she was seemingly very healthy other than being a preemie, the doctors were only concerned with her lung development. At about 12 days old Sophia began to get sick, the hospital she was at (Sentara Princess Anne) couldn’t figure out what was wrong, other than her platelets being extremely low. So the hospital started giving her blood transfusions (multiple times daily) but they couldn’t continue to do that because it wasn’t helping, only stabilizing her. So they transferred her to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughter, where they discovered she had MRSA. After more test were completed a few days later she was diagnosed with endocarditis, a rare heart condition of bacteria in her heart valves. Within days of her treatment for MRSA, she then tested positive for ecoli, another bacteria infection. After being on treatment for the MRSA and Ecoli for about a month and a half the cultures were starting to come back negative and the surgeons told us as far as endocarditis, she’s to small for surgery but the bacteria was now sterile and she should be fine. A month now past between that time and now. Sophia has been in the hospital about 3 months and Thursday (10/22) the doctors at CHKD told my sister medically there was nothing else that they can do for Sophia because they can’t do surgery on her. They presented the option of keeping her as comfortable as possible or sending her home to “transition on her own” because they’re claiming bacteria has destroyed her heart, and is starting to spread to her lungs as well as her brain. They want to start her on palliative care (hospice care). We’re being told CHKD in Norfolk, Va, has done all that they can for her with their resources and doctors and now we’re looking to transfer her to another hospital out of state for a second opinion.  Sophia is currently stable still on antibiotics and receiving care to get her by until another hospital accepts her care and they can transfer her.
Unfortunately her insurance doesn’t cover out of state care so this will be all out of pocket. We are asking for any donation to help go towards the care and treatment of little Sophia. We don’t know how much it will cost but any donation will help. As well as prayers and shares! Please keep Sophia Gabrielle Peeples in your prayers. My family greatly appreciates all the thoughts, well wishes and prayers.

Please feel free to contact me with resources or advice that I can share with my sister and family.
