A Farewell to Mack

Dear Friends,

Our brother, James L. McCullough Jr., better known as "Mack" or “Little Mack” to some, has peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. Mack was loved by everyone who knew him. He was loyal to his family and friends and the Charlotte community. Most of all, until the day he passed away, Mack remained true to his beloved Charlotte Hornets and the NBA extended family. Mack began his career as the Assistant Equipment Manager in 1988 for the Charlotte Hornets' Inaugural Season. His career included working for the Charlotte Sting, Charlotte Bobcats and Charlotte Knights. For the home team and visiting team alike, Mack was selfless. He always gave 210% by going the extra mile for the players and coaches to help make them winners on and off the court! He worked for the Hornets until 2017 when he suffered a massive stroke. The effects of the stroke left Mack paralyzed and unable to continue the work he dearly loved. He spent the last years of his life in a skilled nursing facility. Even though his life dramatically changed, he kept his sense of humor, was his own best advocate and never changed who he was. Mack was always Mack!

Due to his health, the past months and years were emotionally, physically, and financially challenging for Mack. He lost the life he once knew. He was in and out of the hospital with declining health. He fought as best he as he could until he could fight no more. A few weeks ago, he said "I'm tired." Those who knew him, knew "tired", was not a part of the fabric of Mack. We knew he was ready to go home to be with the Lord. Early afternoon on Friday, 10/27/2023, Mack stepped into a brand-new arena for game-time. He went home to be with the Lord. That heavenly locker room is set with towels, drinks, uniforms, candy. Whatever the angels need, no doubt, Mack will have it ready.

Mack's last years were financially challenging. He had the support of his family. Your financial support is needed to help give Mack a homegoing that is fitting for a person who was full of life, who loved life, and who would go the extra mile to help anyone who needed him.

Please make a gift to A Farewell for Mack towards the cost of his funeral and other expenses.

Thank you for your support.
