Support for Ali Duffey's recovery
Donation protected
TL;DR- Ali fell down the steps and broke several bones. She's facing a long recovery before she can resume work. Please help support her.
Our friend Ali Duffey had a bad fall on the afternoon of March 22nd. She slipped from her front steps onto our unforgiving New Orleans sidewalk and broke bones in four places - her right elbow, her right fibula (shin bone) and her right ankle in two places.
Ali spent a week in the hospital, had surgery to implant metal plates and screws in her ankle, and then spent three weeks in a (poor-quality) nursing facility before being sent home on April 18, when the insurance ran out. Ali is now able to function at home with the help of friends (though everything takes 100X longer in a wheelchair!), but she still faces a long recovery - both physical and mental.
Ali is self-employed and is looking at several months until she's back to a point where she can fully resume work. She's also already had considerable costs for medications and medical equipment not covered by insurance. Her exceptional financial needs are likely to extend longer - such as taking Ubers (having broken her right extremities), and longer-term physical therapy.
We are asking for your financial support to help Ali cover her basic needs for the next few months, and to help pay the bills she's already incurred.
Ali wants it known that she is hugely and profoundly grateful to everyone who has supported her so wonderfully - bringing food, spending time, advocating for her, paying for a meal service, and many other kindnesses. She says those people are off the hook here ;)
THANK YOU!
