J.R. and Joann Marion have been residents of Carteret County for many years and are the owners of Kountry Kitchen, located on Hwy 70 in Morehead City. Many of you know them from their current restaurant or their prior location, Broad Creek Family Restaurant or just simply because of their kind hearted nature. The Marion family has always been the first to lend a helping hand when someone was in need, no matter the situation, they were always there to help. Unfortunately, now they are in need of support from our community. J.R. was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer) in July of 2015. He has been receiving treatment for a few months now and praying that all goes well. J.R. has encountered many bumps in the road since his treatment started but has been a real trooper during his journey. Although he is confined to his bedroom for the majority of the time, he makes the best of the situation. He patiently waits for his beautiful wife, Joann, to return home from the family restaurant to provide him with his remaining needs for the day. Before Joann leaves for work she ensures that he has everything he could need until she returns. We watch his face light up the moment he sees her car pull in, he now knows that he is ok, his beautiful wife is back. As anyone who has struggled with this type of disease or perhaps a loved one, knows that there lies ahead a long journey with much support needed. We are asking that as a community we all pull together to help support this loving family during their time of need just as they have during others. Please remember to keep J.R. and his family in your daily prayers asking our Lord to send a cure along with peace and comfort to each member of the Marion family. There will be a benefit dinner held on May 14, 2016 at The Newport Flea Mall. All proceeds will go to the Marion family to help support their needs.
