Dustin is my 14 year old son who was born with congenital nystgamus, astigmatism in both eyes and degrading eye sight. The congenital nystagmus is what the surgery is for. He was diagnosed at 6 months old with this condition and up until about 3 years ago all the drs where convinced that it was an eye disorder. They have recently discovered that it is a neurological disorder. They do not know enough to actually operate correctly on the brain to try and fix it that way. Dustin has no muscle control in his eyes and they are constantly shifting back and forth. His null point is now to the point where it looks like he is rolling his eyes to the back of his head. The surgery will be helping correct the null point. because he has no muscle control and astigmatism in both eyes laser surgery is not possible. He will be put completely under they have to physically remove his eyes cut the muscles to pull the null point to the center and they will be removing scar tissue from his previous two surgeries. The drs have given the diagnosis that Dustin will be completely blind by 18 years old and as of October of 2014 he is borderline legally blind. When he was younger the dr told him that he would never play organized sports because focusing on the ball would be to difficult. Dustin has played basketball for 5 years and this year he is trying out for soccer. Every time the dr has said no you cant he has responded with watch me. The only thing Dustin hasn't mastered is riding a bike and with his messed up equilibrium its understandable. Please help us keep proving drs wrong.
