Super Duper 2 Ice Cream Shop

On Sunday, August 16, 2020, Waimea’s beloved ice cream shop, Super Duper 2, caught on fire.
The fire was contained to the rear of the ice cream shop, and unfortunately, it destroyed freezers, melted the AC unit and all of the small appliances, and wiped out all the shop's supplies. The smoke covered the entire interior of the shop, and everything is now coated in a heavy layer of black soot. The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but it is looking like it was an electrical short that caused the blaze. Thankfully no one was hurt, but unfortunately, this is a devastating blow to its owner, Lisa Johnston. As most of you on the westside of Kaua’i know, Lisa is about as famous a figure in town as her ice cream shop is. This ice cream shop is her livelihood, but more importantly, it was her dream. Super Duper was originally opened in the same location back in 1967 by Lisa's father, Dick Johnston. It was a storefront for him to sell Meadow Gold Ice Cream. In 2009, she excitedly reopened it, selling Roselani Ice Cream. She always dreamt of becoming a Waimea Town Business Owner, just like her dad. With the opening of Super Duper 2, her dream became a reality.
Lisa is just devastated at the loss of her shop. But amazingly, as the blaze was being put out Sunday by the fire department, all she could think about were her neighbors next door at DC Laundry, The Booze Shop and her landlord's house located in the rear. She was so worried about their businesses and was so anxious to know whether the fire had impacted their shops or home. But if you know Lisa, this comes as no surprise. Because that is her nature - to think about others before herself.
Over the years that her ice cream shop has been in operation, Lisa has given back to the residents and businesses in this community ten fold. She is always there to lend a hand in the Waimea community by supporting various events, and she never hesitates to provide ice cream donations or gift certificates from her shop for the keiki, the schools, clubs, sports teams and the community. No birthday party on the westside is complete without Super Duper 2 ice cream being served! She loves her customers like family. Her heart of gold shines in all she does, and she is the first to volunteer her services for a cause - whether it is for her church, her former St. Theresa students, the families on the westside of the island, her friends or her own family members. She does it willing and she does it wholeheartedly. Now, it is our turn to come together and give back to this wonderful community member who needs our help! It will take a lot to clean up our beloved Super Duper 2, which is why we have set up this Go Fund Me page for Lisa. She is worried about how she will get her ice cream treats to her customers. The goal is to bring Super Duper 2 back to its original splendor, whether that is to repair the Waimea storefront, or possibly with a Super Duper 2 Ice Cream truck. This would allow her to continue with her home and business deliveries (which have been very successful during these trying times of COVID-19), visit neighborhoods, cater at parties and festivals, and to better serve her beloved customers, especially the little keiki. Lisa would be the last person to ask for help, but there are so many of her friends and acquaintances who have asked how they can lend a hand to help her get back on her feet. We need to help get Super Duper 2 Ice Cream, whatever that will now look like, back in business. Let's all pull together to assist someone who has helped so many others and give our support to a business that brings so much joy to all on the westside of Kauai!! Please help by making a donation to this cause. No amount is too small and every donation is extremely appreciated. If you can't make a donation at this time, please send your thoughts and prayers for Lisa, as they are more than welcomed and will be appreciated so much. Mahalo everyone!
