Help Rescue the Horse Rescuer- fundraiser for Colette
Donation protected
Some of the earliest memories of my mother are of her rescuing horses. She’d suddenly pull the truck over, grabbing the extra lead line & halter she kept behind the seat, and using the cellophane from her pack of cigarettes, she’d entice some runaway horse to come to her as I knocked on nearby doors to find the owners. As a kid, this was so embarrassing! Surely the other kids at school didn’t have a mom that would do things like this! As an adult, looking back at the life my mother has led, I’ve come to think of it as a superpower. My mother, Colette Krupinski—the horse whisperer, horse rescuer, the horse lover.
But even superheroes have their weaknesses.
As some of you already know, Colette has been dealing with some pretty major health issues for the past few years. Sometimes, when people care so much about others—especially horses (and their emotional support humans)—they neglect their own health and well-being. After fighting some GI issues and diabetes, her doctors (who we love and trust) told us that the best course of action was for her left leg to be removed. This is obviously a huge life change for Colette, and while she’s taking it like a champ—a superhero even—it’s been hard. For any of you that have had lessons canceled, or RSVPs not honored, you know.
As many of you also know, Colette has spent her (and my!) entire life training horses, raising champion horseback riders, and devoting SO much time, energy, and money into 4-H. Now it’s time to help her out in any way you can. Please consider giving back to help her find her new quality of life. Our family is raising funds to help make her house accessible for her so that she can get back to doing what she loves. Funds raised will go toward remodeling the bathroom to make it accessible for her (this by itself is going to cost $10K JUST for the shower!), building and installing a permanent ramp for her to safely get in and out of the house, helping her catch up on barn bills, and recovering some of the income she has lost during her health battles.
If you or someone you love has ever been taught by Colette, please consider donating. If you have any questions, or would like to support in other ways, please reach out to Colette's sister, Gwen Ramsdell or Colette's daughter, Jennefa Krupinski
Sincere and genuine thanks,
Colette, her family, and the Hawkspur Farm Team
