Hi, My name is Allison Filippone and I am a high school art teacher at a school in Long Island NY. For the last five years, I have created a fundraiser in April to raise money for senior scholarships. The funds raised for these scholarships are an important part of creating community and I am humbly asking, again, if you are able, to donate. *link in bio*

I would like to share a little more about my school and the importance of these scholarships. My school is a Title One school, by definition a school with large concentrations of low-income students that receive supplemental funds that assist in meeting student educational goals.

We also have an incredibly diverse student body- both culturally and economically. They are hardworking students who embrace opportunities to advance both academically and in leadership roles. This scholarship is a unique opportunity to recognize students who demonstrate leadership skills, who are hardworking, dedicated, and kind- An example for their classmates. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate that WE the community are behind them and support them in their quest for higher education. THAT WE BELIEVE IN THEM!

The importance of community-funded scholarships extends beyond the monetary donation, it helps create a stronger educational community where students are aware that we not only stand behind them but that we will work hard together- parents, teachers, and administrators to help them achieve their highest potential. This has been my work for the last few years- to increase this partnership within schools, to bring back a sense of community where we are all partners in our children’s education. Research indicates that in school districts where students feel they belong, there is a greater overall achievement and it is more likely students will give back to the community in later years.
