I'm a 58 year old man who works for the studio system in Southern California.  In June 2018 I was in an auto accident (not my fault) on the way to work .I was in the hospital for 24 days, 19 of which were spent intubated in the ICU. When I was almost ready to return to work in September, it was discovered that I still had problems with my shoulders which required further surgery to my left shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff.  This surgery was completed in February of 2019, and I finally recovered by June of 2019.  This was fortunate because by this time I had expended all of my state disability insurance and needed to return to work to regain income.  I was fortunate enough to find work right away and reported to the Disney Studios Labor Department for work in their furniture moving department.  After only ONE DAY on the job, that evening at home as I prepared to take a shower, I was standing outside the shower and turned to reach for a towel.  I lost my balance and fell backward. Unable to catch myself, I fell and broke both of my ankles.  I was rushed to the hospital for surgery and spent two days in the hospital. Afterward I was unable to walk for six weeks, and traveled via wheelchair everywhere I went.  So, now that I was home my problem was two-fold: I not only couldn't work and I had no income due to having fully exhausted my state disability insurance with the year I had spent recovering from my accident.  I reached out to charities that work with my industry and was able to get a couple of months mortgages paid.  I got us on food stamps.  I started the process of applying for Social Security disability which takes approximately six months or more to maturate.  I received some help from family, sold off some personal effects, and made a lot of phone calls to try and make any arrangements I could to postpone bills or arrange whatever payments I could.  As I was approaching the date when it looked like I would be recovered from my ankle injury and might be able to return to work, I was diagnosed with lung cancer.  To add more stress to an already stressful time, my father passed away.  I didn't know how much more I could take.  I went into the hospital for my surgery and due to complications, the surgery had to be performed in two procedures and I had to spend two weeks in the hospital.  This of course extended my length of recovery.  Problems facing me now are: Lack of income still; Mounting medical bills; Our health insurance is due to be cancelled at the end of the year due to the fact that I haven't been able to work; my wife Marika was recently diagnosed with a mass attached to her spleen and also needs to have surgery before the end of the year.  I have outstanding medical bills and a monthly expense nut of approx $4,000, which I have been juggling for six months now.  My plan is to return to work as soon as I am physically able, but I don't see that happening until the second quarter of 2020.  I am a hard worker with a strong work ethic and have never been in this kind of situation before.  I'm a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a Member in Good Standing with Local 724 Laborers Union.  I'm now at home and at my rope's end with no means of income, no ability to work and no more ideas.  If you could help us I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for any and all help you may be able to provide.    Thank You Scott Russell
