Help and Support to Save My Art Studio and Home!

Hello people of Earth!

I am in need of financial help after my subtenant left my home and studio severely damaged and refused to pay several months of rent and bills. The total amount of this is 15.310€ and hoping to raise half of the outstanding costs (7.655€). I have been back in Berlin since August and have had a very difficult time trying to manage this -mostly- myself. I am at a point of overwhelm and struggling to pay off the owed rent and the rest of the damages. So far, I’ve paid off the outstanding bills and around 6000€ in repairs. The total amount was 10.700€…oh my god, and doing what I can to keep everything afloat. I have been trying to continue painting, and making drawings for more appointments, but the reality is, I feel such an enormous physical and emotional exhaustion that it has been brutal to ‘try harder’ to make extra income. I have sued this person and it is in the courts (hello lawyer fees!) and due to the nature of the German court system, it will continue to take many more months with a slim chance of getting anything close to the actual amounts owed back, especially with regards to the damages done. This has been utterly devastating both financially, but also creatively and emotionally.

I have offerings to give away as an extra ‘thank you’ but also share my art (aka, soul) with you. I did take some of my income to invest in scanning five paintings so I can make prints of them to offer as a bonus, with free delivery, for donations of 100€+. There is also a lot of original artworks on my website with ordering options for extra prints. I find this painfully awkward to write, and more, to ask for help on such a big scale. In the past when bumps happened, I just worked harder to help my situation, which lead to a significant amount of burn out and a creative disconnect. This is why I left Berlin in the first place - total and complete burn out. Leaving Berlin was intended to actually rest, reconnect with my art, learn to paint and head back to Canada at the end of the first or second year with the new tenant in place. Sadly, this person got herself evicted after a few months and I had to move back to amend the situation and take over the studio once again. This was also financially devastating, not to mention deeply sad for me to go through. After a 24 year long career in tattooing, this was the first time in my life I tried to take a break. It was painfully short-lived.

Missing/owed rent: 8.400€, down to: 5.310€

Damage claim/repairs: 10.700€, down to: 4.700€

Lawyer fees and extra bills: 5.300€

Total: 15.310€

Asking for 50%: 7.655€

Money raised will go directly to the house owner for lost rents, housemaster for major repairs I'm not able to fix and fees/bills.

Here are a few photos of damages. The wallpaper had to be removed completely. The renter built a wall in the kitchen and when removed, took the plaster off to the brick, tore wallpaper throughout and left wet drywall mud to dry on all the floor. They have been sanded down and painted. Wasn't salvageable.

These are some of the chunks of plaster torn off and hanging on with ripped wallpaper.

This is on the ceiling; there are big cuts throughout the entire area.

The column and ceiling are covered with breakage, including bend metal edges on the column. Most likely needs total remake.

This is a thin, ill-fitting piece of cardboard coving a giant hole they made above the door. This was fully wallpapered before and has to be removed, hole fixed and painted. Its about 1,5 metres x 1 metre.

It's like this around the whole doorway.

They glued foam trim onto the wall. I removed it and it broke off the plaster on this entire wall. Half of the electrical outlets are ripped off the wall and live - like open with no protection.

Sticky film on all the windows.

There are also broken floorboards, broken faucets (brand-new) two toilets broken, porcelain kitchen sink fractured throughout, two chandeliers stolen, baseboard trims stolen, brand-new heating unit disconnected (harder then it sounds), sub wall in the kitchen totally destroyed from the wall they made. This is where the pipes and drainage is stored. The whole thing needs to be dismantled and replaced (3 metres long, 1 metre height). This is the basic stuff. The studio was also left completely filthy which took 3 days to clean.
