This is my mom, Tara O'Grady and she is battling Stage 4 mestatic breast cancer. Basically she's fighting for her life. She's undergoing treatments & procedures that take a tremendous emotional & financial toll on her. I'm her son. TJ. and my mom has always been there for myself and my siblings.
My mom is facing this tragedy with amazing strength, courage & tenacity. She remains hopeful and positive despite the many obstacles she faces. The financial strain of expensive Co pays & many other costs related to her cancer are enormous.
My mom prays she can fulfill some hopes, dreams & bucket list items but instead must deal with the realities of how to survive each month. Choosing between medications and food. Skipping treatments because she doesn't have the money for gas. car insurance or car maintainence.
My mother, Tara. started her battle with breast cancer in late 2021 when a routine mammogram detected a suspicious lump in her left breast. A later biopsy confirmed it was cancer. She followed up with surgery, radiation and chemo. She faced this challenge with positivity, resilience and determination. She remained strong and refused to burden myself and my siblings with her challenges. She finished all treatments by early 2023 & 6 months later after a 3D mammogram & ultrasound was told she was cancer free. Through out 2023 & early 2024 they continued to tell her that she was cancer free.
But by summer of 2024 my mom was experiencing constant excruciating & debilitating pain. She went to urgent cares and doctors misdiagnosed her with urinary & or kidney infections. They brushed aside her concerns, pain & complaints.
By November of 2024 she could barely walk and was hospitalized where they finally conducted scans & diagnosed her with stage 4 mestatic breast cancer that had spread to all her bones including 3 major cancerous lesions on her spine. Seems a surgeon misread a petscan back in 2022 leading to unfettered spread of the cancer.
Now my mom is struggling and fighting to live. She has a great new oncologist but the treatments, procedures, side effects, testing & many many doctor appointments overwhelm her life and finances. She is living off a small fixed income of Social Security retirement benefits. She only gets a small amount because she took some years off to raise us kids.
Life has been tough for my mom as she has faced so many challenges in life. Her dad, an AF pilot went missing in Vietnam when she was 6 leaving her mom & six siblings in limbo. Her mom became ill so she ended up in a abusive orphanage until 13.
Years later Her first child died & that was beyond devastating to her.
Despite all she endured she worked tirelessly to raise me & my siblings. She became a single mom after leaving a physically , emotionally and verbally abusive husband, my dad. She worked diligently to provide for us & she was & is an amazing mom, involved in our schooling, sports, scouting choir and other extracurricular activities. She loved and supported us unconditionally. She instilled confidence in us to follow our dreams.
She is kind hearted, selfless, loving and compassionate & is now facing great adversity making us feel helpless.
Prior to my mom's diagnosis she was able to work to supplement her limited retirement benefits. Now with all the treatments and procedures she can't. . She is struggling to survive sometimes missing critical appointments and treatments. . We help but have limited resources to assist adequately.
Please any financial assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. She's been so generous in life and deserves help.
