An excerpt from Frederick's campaign:
"The release of Marvel's film the "Black Panther" is a rare opportunity for young students (primarily of color) to see a black major cinematic and comic book character come to life. This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved, unprivileged, and marginalized both nationally and globally."
As a long time Marvel fan, I couldn't be more excited to see this campaign in action. With the rich historical background of Birmingham, AL, it is only right that we bring this challenge local and allow our youth to see positive representation of Black actors and actresses in a city that is known for its pivotal influence in civil rights.
A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club was founded in 1966 by local entrepreneur and businessman A.G. Gaston, who played a significant role in the civil rights movement in Birmingham. With a mission of "inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens," we offer an alternative safe place for Birmingham and Bessemer neighborhood children to stay out of trouble, remain in school, and succeed in life. We serve more than 1,000 local youth ages 6-18 per year offering programs that focus on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Character & Leadership.
Our goal is to provide close to 100 youth of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club of Birmingham, AL the opportunity to enjoy a private screening of Marvel's Black Panther, with concessions included.
Please help us to bring this awesome experience to life for our youth! Thank you for your support!
