One week ago, Misty, my little girl, suffered a devastating injury; while playing fetch, a stick broke off after hitting the ground and immediately bounced up, entered Misty's mouth, and pierced up and to the left into her larynx and soft palette (throat and back of the mouth). We immediately rushed to the hospital, the stick was taken out of her mouth, and she began to recover from the devastating injury that also trapped air outside of her lungs in her chest and under soft tissue on her left side. After two days, she was released from the hospital, but just a day and a half later, she began to cough up blood, pieces of soft tissue, and then hematomas or blood clots.
Rushed to the hospital again with a great amount of blood loss, Misty was immediately given a blood transfusion to stabilize her. After an x-ray and a look at her throat by the surgeon, no source of the bleed was found. With Misty's red blood cell count dropping again, she was given another blood transfusion in hopes that this would help normalize her and bring her red blood cell count back up. Unfortunately, this didn't happen; her red blood cell count is the same, which must indicate she's still bleeding somewhere internally. She will likely need another blood transfusion soon.
On top of this, the air pockets under her skin and muscles in her neck were beginning to form an infection. This seems to be improving currently, but we are very cautious.
Our next steps are to bring the surgeon back in to see what we can do to stop the internal bleeding. We hope to find the bleed by doing another CT scan followed by surgically exploring and repairing the bleed.

Misty is a special girl. Her owner (me) was in a bar with friends one day when a rescue came by with a couple of puppies from the same litter that were abandoned. There was a beautiful 8-week old puppy that everyone adored, but no one could get near. Every time someone would try to hold or approach her, she would tremble with fear and yelp. I can only imagine what she had been through. One of my friends began to hold Misty, but she began to yelp and tremble. Being the only person there that hadn't tried to hold her yet, my friend put her in my arms and she immediately began licking me and fell asleep on my shoulder. As I was trying to leave, she began to nibble on my nose and tried to follow me home. Everyone said it was fate. Well, this can't be the end of our fate. We have to keep pushing and give her all the support she needs to get better. She has to get better, but we need your help. The costs are mounting to astronomical levels and we're starting to wonder how we're going to pay for the next procedure or how we're going to be able to pay the end cost and be able to bring her home.
Please help. Your donation would mean the world to Misty and her family.

She is the kindest, sweetest dog and LOVES to play fetch. Fetch is life. No other activity exists. I just want to be able to throw that ball again to her and see her jump up into the air and catch it like it's nothing. I miss her. Please help bring her home. Your donations are sincerely appreciated. All proceeds will go to Misty and her medical bills aimed at her recovery and nothing else.
Thank you so, so much.
