Hope for Grayson

Donation protected
This is my grandson Grayson and his stepdad Jared. Grayson was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency when he was born.  (Alpha 1) can cause liver problems in infants, children, or adults.  In people with with Alpha-1 large amounts of abnormal alpha-1 antitrypsin protein (AAT) are made in the liver ; nearly 85 percent of this protein gets stuck in the liver. If the liver cannot break down the abnormal protein, the liver gets damaged. Only 5 percent of children end up needing a liver transplant. Unfortunately, Grayson fell into the 5 percent.

When Jared and Grayson met there was an instant bond. Jared found out he was the same blood type and immediately scheduled an appointment at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA to see if he could be his living donor. Lucky for us he was a perfect match. Their surgery has been scheduled for Sept 28th.

Jared’s recovery will be 8-12 weeks and will be out of work. My daughter Heather will stay home to care for Grayson. The first year will be hardest, as there will be weekly trips to Boston.

I am unbelievably proud and thankful for Jared . I often say, he was heaven sent.  He is giving the gift of life. To say he is a hero, is an understatement.

I am hoping to raise enough to cover a portion of Heather and Jared’s lost wages as well as helping cover travel and
lodging  expenses.

Thank You in advance for your support . I will keep you updated on both Grayson and Jared’s progress throughout their journey.
