Hey folks, Rizza needs our help!
On July 28th Rizza was diagnosed with a herniated disc stemming from chronic overuse and multiple (past) injuries. She has been experiencing severe and debilitating pain, as well as numbness, and weakness. She has managed to work full time, be a wonderful parent, a great partner and a dear friend to many, and she has managed to keep her spirits up, but the reality is she had to do all of this longer than anyone should ever have to.
Shortly after her diagnosis she was going to begin what she thought would be a round of routine injections and physical therapy with the possibility of surgery if and only if these treatments didn't work. She never even began to start this process.
As of August 3rd she started to experience a rapid decline in mobility and her pain and symptoms rapidly began to worsen.
After spending 10 hours in the ER waiting room, she was finally admitted to the hospital where she then spent hours advocating for herself when she wasn't given proper care. AKA Being a black femme seeking medical care.
As of this morning (August 4th) with the help of her primary care physician and 2 amazing osteopathic specialists they have set a plan for her to have surgery within the week. This all happens to be occurring within only a month of her having to catch up financially from covid shutdowns.
She is self employed which means she does not have "sick days" or PTO to help ease the stress of this medical emergency.
And to top that, just when she thought it couldn't get worse Rizza was informed that her family insurance plan that would be covering her surgery and treatment has ceased, as the person providing her benefits lost their job. She is looking at options right now, but her surgeon is out of network, and she will definitely be underinsured for her procedures and follow up care. The out of pocket costs are projected to be in the thousands and her expected recovery time will be about 6 weeks.
That's a lot right!?!?!
She has given us all so much through her kick ass hair styling, lashing, and consistent friendship as she helps us all look like the best versions of ourselves.
Now it's time for us to come together and show her our love and support.
How you ask?
A donation of any size and sharing this crowd funding page will help alleviate the large financial burden that will come with this surgery. By doing so, she will be able to keep up on bills, the cost of child care, and to cover her basic needs to heal and get back in her feet.
She would really love to heal fast so she can pick up and hold her kid again soon!
