River came into our lives 5 years ago. He was rescued from a bleak parking lot after he was abandoned by his mother. River chose me. As soon as I picked him up he was kissing me and climbing on me trying to get as close as possible. There was no way that puppy was not coming home with me. When we got home, River was initially a little shy and wary of our dog Boychick. Boychick was not too happy to have another dog invade his territory. Over the next few days, they became the best of friends. Now, the two are inseparable and love each other dearly.
River has proven his love for me repeatedly, he doesn't leave my side when I'm sick. If he senses I'm struggling with my depression he sticks to me like glue, giving me love and supporting me by being present. At night he cuddles with me and in the morning wakes me with kisses.
I could give numerous other examples of how important River is in our world, but I think for those dog lovers out there the message is likely recieved. He is my best buddy and I love him fiercely. Last night at the Vet we learned that River has torn a ligament in his knee as well as his miniscus. In a human this is a horribly painful injury that requires surgery and physical therapy to heal. The injury is no less painful for a dog and the treatment is the same. Watching River in pain breaks my heart. Feeling helpless because I cannot afford to get him the surgery he needs is one of the worst things I have ever experienced. He is young, fun-loving and should not have to suffer for nearly a year in the hopes his body will heal on its own. He needs our help.
I am very uncomfortable creating a gofundme campaign. I am ashamed to be the caretaker of this incredible being and not be able to take care of him at this time. Please, please, if you can, help me to get River the surgery he needs. My gratitude knows no bounds for any help you can provide. Thank you.
