We have created this fundraiser to help our parents and family in the Philippines, who have been living in their current house in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, Philippines for over 22 years. Christian Pastor Resty Rivera and his wife Maria Luz currently live here with their daughter and four of their six sons. Their other two sons, Jaasiel and Jehiel Rivera, are living in the Chicagoland area and are organizing this fundraiser along with their ladies Jessie and Rebekah.
The Rivera family's "yero" (galvanized corrugated metal aluminum sheet) roof is at least 22 years old, and it has become extremely rusty. More and more holes keep appearing, and it has gotten to the point where they have permanently attached buckets to catch the water that comes in from the holes in the roof. These holes can't even be patched due to the rust around them.
We, their family members in the United States, do our best to support them and send them money every month. However, this project is unfortunately a bit out of our reach financially. We've seen how powerful a little bit given from many people can be, so we thought we would give crowdfunding a shot to help our family get a new roof.
All money raised from this campaign will go directly to their new roof. If we are able, our goal is to raise $1,500, which will cover the cost of materials and installation of a new roof made of a durable material called long span. Long span roof is a roll formed roof made from hot-dip galvanized cold rolled mild steel. The drywall ceiling that is connected to the roof will also need to be replaced. The updated quote that the family received from the roofing company for parts and labor is 280,000 Philippine pesos, which is $5,500 USD.
We feel a bit odd even asking for help with this, but we know that this family deserves a solid, durable roof, definitely a roof without holes and buckets! Please know that you are giving to a God-fearing, generous family that goes out of their way to help others alongside their fellow church members even when they can't provide for all of their own needs sometimes. The Riveras in the United States and the Riveras in the Philippines are SO thankful and grateful for any amount that anyone is able to give. We know this is a hard financial time for many people, so we are not setting our expectations too high. Whatever amount we can’t raise in the next 2 weeks, we will be pulling from our wedding budget/savings to cover the rest of the amount.
